So I've been mentioning lately a lot about these Family Story sessions. I know, I know...you all are like...."yeah Jenae, you've been talking about these sessions-- what are you talking about!? I just want some photos! I don't understand!?"
Ok, so I get it. You want photos with your family, with the gorgeous Colorado scenery as my backdrop. Something a la Fall colors....mountains...sunny backlight.... I understand...I truly do...and that is wonderful as well! But that's not what these sessions are about. I feel there is a very important place for pretty posed photos...but I feel that for me and my business, my HEART lies with the genuine STORY of a family, and want to offer that to everyone! I do also love to make gorgeous family lifestyle portraits-- but I very much feel that 10 or 20 years, or more, down the road....these story-style photos are going to be the ones you and your family cherish most. They are not the ones looking perfectly put together in a perfect setting. They are going to be the ones that allow you to be transported BACK to the everyday moments....to the toys, the smirks, the messes, the tears, the beautiful chaos that creates your simple acts of just being a family together everyday.
Maybe I'm wrong...maybe you want more traditional style portraits! That's ok...I know that these Story sessions are not going to be for everybody. But....if you're anything like me.....I love seeing dirt under my little boys fingernails....want to remember what kind of cereal they eat for breakfast right now...what their faces look like when they cry...how cute their shoes are...their uncontrollable laughter with each other...how they suck their thumb...what they look like when they sleep...what they look like when they hug their daddy...how beautifully messy their room is.....It's all so perfect to me. As crazy as I feel on a daily basis...and I am not by any means a "sane" put-together person....but I do know that I am going to want to remember everything that I possibly can about my life...my husband...my house (s), and my kids (and my chickens!). I firmly believe now that the only way to do that is have the utmost authentic and genuine photos that I can....so that I can FEEL what it's like to be back in these moments. Can a photo do that? I think so. I believe so. THAT is why I do what I do...because I believe in it...and I believe everyone needs it...deserves...and wants it...but maybe doesn't know it.
So next time you are looking for family photos, do them...whatever your style. But....if I may suggest...try a Family Story approach and session...it's so much more than just a photo on the wall. (Right now as well, I am offering these sessions with a built-in "mini" posed session if you desire as well-- so you can a few "look at the camera" photos too! Best of both worlds!! ;)

This is the Swisher family. I love them. I have taken photos of them since they were only 4 peeps....but more importantly, I have known Dad since I was 12. Pretty cool. I absolutely adore seeing this family grow...and getting to know each one of them as they get older! They all have such sweet personalities (well...little newborn Adam was pretty much sleeping the while time....but he's a sweet baby for sure!), and I had a blast paying Star Wars and reading, and playing dress up, and watching some epic meal prep! One thing I know for sure-- there is a lot of love and patience in this household...so happy for them! Thank you, Swisher Fam, for letting me be a part of your Family Story!!
